I have decided to attach my first reaction paper in this reflection, as it summarizes my journey in college to understanding institutional racism through a healthcare lens.

- Racism: A Short History by George M. Frederickson
- Racism without Racists by Eduardo Bonilla-SIlva
- Black Feminist Thought by Patricia Hill Collins
- The Souls of Black Folk by WEB Du Bois
- Racist America by Joe Feagin
- Racism: A Short History by George M. Frederickson
- Participated in faculty- and student-led discussions
- Learned how religion played a role in establishing global institutional racism and prejudice
- Learned the origins of racism itself and what exactly "racism" means (i.e., racism versus bigotry)
- Learned the theories and experiences of WEB Du Bois through his essays in The Souls of Black Folk and how WEB Du Bois's theories and experiences compare to Booker T. Washington's.
- Understood how intersectionality plays a role in Black women's and gender non-conforming people's lives.
- Connected ideas and theories learned in class to current events, including prison privatization and the Covington Catholic standoff in February 2019.
- Described contemporary manifestations of stereotypes associated with African-Americans from slavery origins and with Indigenous peoples through colonialism.
